A new report has endorsed the imposition of variable tolls on congested UK roads.
12 Jul 2004, 18:29 GMT - The Commission for Integrated Transport's road toll proposals are aimed at reducing congestion on key routes. Yet they are still likely to face strong resistance from road haulage and logistics players unwilling to see their margins further squeezed.
The Commission for Integrated Transport is recommending the imposition of pay as you go tolls on certain roads. The Commission says that road users should regard its proposals as a change in the way road tax is paid, not an additional burden."
